Vintage silk kimono. 100% silk.
The pattern is cut from a light pink 'Tanmono' 反物, a roll of cloth to make a kimono. It features a 'Nami' 波, a wave pattern that represents strength and is a symbol of the gods of the sea. This pattern often has depictions of churning water or flowing waves. During the Sengoku Era in Japan, it was often used on banners and armor during the war.
Detailed with a center front placket with shell buttons, back yoke with an inverted pleat, side paneling, and single-button cuffs.
Every piece is one of a kind and hand-numbered. All wear and idiosyncrasies are unique to the textile. Handcrafted by artisans in New York City.
