edition N° 1, 11 of 15
Vintage Haori. 100% silk.
The pattern is cut from a black vintage men's 'Haori' 羽織, a traditional Japanese hip or thigh-length jacket worn over a kimono.
Traditionally, a 'Haori' features plain external designs and lavishly decorated landscape linings and was not worn by women until the Edo period (1615-1868).
The landscape scenes from the hand-painted, lining of the 'Haori' are reflected in the cuff and collar, featuring a man leaning from an upper window of a two-story home accessed by ladders and a path leading to the home beneath mountains and trees. Detailed with a center front placket with shell buttons, back yoke, side paneling, and single-button cuffs.
Every piece is one-of-a-kind and numbered. All wear and idiosyncrasies are unique to the textile. Handcrafted by artisans in New York City.
