Rebirth, a life unraveled and reconstructed at a gentle pace.

My exploration of deconstructing the vintage kimono reflected the grieving of an old identity and a rebirth of a new one. The process of unraveling the threads, seams, and folds of this object was slow, mediated, and considered. What was left was an empty space filled with possibilities.

It was my choice in how to fill this space. With intention and purpose, I began to craft piece by piece, from a new perspective.

Through this creation process, I discovered self-compassion as a powerful tool to hold space for others. Objects are living matter, souls, and contain the energy of its maker. I personified the transformation of the vintage kimono into a blouse as a mirror of myself. I shed a past self to welcome a new one in this modern world.
